This is the story of how the Wise Men found and worshipped Jesus and then why Joseph had to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt.

1. Jesus's birth was the fulfillment of God's promise.
2. Jesus's birth fulfilled the Old Testament prophesies. 
3. Jesus was with God, and was God, who came to us to fulfill God's plan for redemption because he loved us.

Introducing the Story Ideas
1. Follow the Stars Scavenger Hunt
Set up a trail of stars (younger) OR a scavenger hunt with star shaped clues (older). Have a treasure waiting for them at the end. Talk about how the men we are learning about today followed a star to find the greatest treasures in all the world. 

2. Wise Men Still Seek Him
Ask the kids what they think it would mean to be wise. Why do you think the wise men came? What do you think they expected to find? 

​3. Gifts
Have samples of gold (or fake gold), frankincense and myrrh. Let the children smell the different gifts. Ask if these are typical gifts to give a baby. Why would they bring him these gifts.

READ  Matthew 2:1-23 or tell the story of the wise men coming to visit Jesus.  
EMPHASIZE that:

• Jesus was born just like God said he was. 
• All of the prophecies came true. 
• God loves us so much, he sent Jesus to rescue us from sin. ​
